About

I was a bored Speech Therapist in England looking for a change and a challenge and a bit of adventure so I answered an advert for a job in Hong Kong and now here I am working with pre-school children with special needs on Hong Kong Island floating in the South China Sea at the bottom of China.

As a Speech and Language Therapist working in a foreign country there is never a dull moment and I certainly did get the adventure I was looking for, not every minute is an adventure -I still have to go to work most days and try to help the special little children I work with to communicate and help their families to communicate with them and I still eat dinner and watch TV after the gym in the evenings. However it is all just a little bit different to living and working in my homeland England. I have learned to always expect to be surprised by big and little things and to always expect the unexpected – in Hong Kong it seems that anything goes. This is one of the reasons that I love living in this crazy place! I hope to use this space as a way to share some of these sometimes normal and sometimes crazy day-today experiences from interesting things I have done in my speech room, to what the kids I work with say, to interesting happenings around HK for a foreigner who has only a basic understanding of the language here (which is Cantonese) and even less idea of how to speak it! I have got into some interesting situations but being a Speech Therapist I tend to just simply keep talking and remembering to listen carefully too.

I hope you find my ramblings interesting…
